While Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp insists that Chelsea target Luka Modric will not play against Manchester United tonight because "his head's not in the right place", The Sun claim the midfielder has gone on strike to try and force through his transfer after Chelsea lodged an official £30 million bid.

The truth probably lies somewhere between the two, but it certainly looks as though want-away Modric is edging towards the White Hart Lane exit door... although there is no word from either club on this alleged "official £30 million bid".

23.40 Closedown: Juan Mata will be completed tomorrow, while we expect movement, or lack thereof, of Nasri and Modric. Sneijder? Don't ask.

23.39 The Daily Telegraph: "Liverpool have identified the Uruguayan centre-back Sebastian Coates as Kenny Dalglish’s sixth signing of the summer and are also considering a surprise move to bring Craig Bellamy back to Anfield."

21.56 Neil Warnock, the Queens Park Rangers manager, says Malaysian tycoon Tony Fernandes's takeover at Loftus Road could allow him to sign Joe Cole from Liverpool. It looks likely to be a loan deal with Liverpool paying part of his wages.

20.29 Major League Soccer and Blackburn Rovers have agreed to terms on a transfer for defender George John, who plays for FC Dallas.

16.50: Valencia striker Roberto Soldado feels it was right to cash in on Juan Mata when Chelsea made their offer. 15.50: DONE DEAL Chelsea reserve defender Tomas Kalas has joined Vitesse Arnhem on loan until the end of the season.

15.38: Juan Mata has arrived in London ahead of his move to Chelsea.

15.34: Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan’s saying Inter haven’t been in for him. "I do not have any offer from Inter," he told AS. "I have two years on my contract and I cannot say what is going to happen. My idea is to be here and see out my contract, but it is hard to say if that is going to happen. No-one has told me I am for sale.”

14.10 - DONE DEAL New Rangers signing Carlos Bocanegra has been given the green-light to join up with the rest of his team-mates after obtaining a visa. The United States captain secured the necessary paperwork in Paris and is set to arrive at Murray Park on Tuesday.

13.54 It looks like Arsene "I'll spend £40m" Wenger won't be getting defender Per Mertesacker as big-spending PSG have entered the bidding, according to L'Equipe.

13.39 - DONE DEAL Sampdoria have signed 24-year-old goalkeeper Sergio Romero from AZ Alkmaar. The Argentina international has signed a three-year deal.

09.40 The Daily Mirror claim that Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish may have to offload £6 million flop Jean Makoun as the midfielder has failed to make an impact at the club.

09.26 Stoke City manager Tony Pulis revealed he is hoping to sign "three or four" new players before the summer transfer window closes, according to The Sun.

08.45 If you missed the news of PSG's enquiry about Dimitar Berbatov, sporting director Leonardo said: “I had Sir Alex Ferguson on the phone but he told me that he was counting on Berbatov and that he was not for sale.”

08.40 Manchester United may have rejected an approach from PSG for Dimitar Berbatov but The Telegraph claim that the Red Devils are facing a financial headache over his future which could see the club trigger a one-year contract option to prevent the £30.75 million club record signing leaving on a free transfer next summer.

08.30 The Daily Mail report that Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has hinted the club may abandon their bid to sign Samir Nasri if the French midfielder plays in the Champions League for Arsenal on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the newspaper also claims that Tottenham have joined the race to sign Bolton defender Gary Cahill, with Harry Redknapp considers using David Bentley as bait.

08.15 Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is considering a shock £10 million move for Wolves striker Kevin Doyle before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month, according to the Daily Star. The newspaper also reports that Chelsea have landed Juan Mata from Valencia in a £25 million deal.

08.00 The Daily Mirror report that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made bids of £15 million and £20 million respectively in for Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila and Lille forward Eden Hazard. And is also going back for another crack at Everton defender Phil Jagielka, having already had two bids turned down.
