It may be a national holiday here in the UK but that doesn't stop the newspapers churning out the transfer rumours and top of the pile today is Arsene Wenger's search for new players following Sunday's humiliating 8-2 defeat at Manchester United.
The Arsenal defence was all at sea at Old Trafford and The Sun reckon that Chelsea's Brazilian centre-back Alex could be on his way to Emirates Stadium. "Desperate Gunners boss Wenger finally realised he had to act," explains the newspaper.
Arsenal value the 29-year-old at around £7 million but their London rivals want £10 million.
Meanwhile, over at Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp could be set for some late wheeling and dealing with Peter Crouch on his way to Stoke (The Guardian) with Honduras midfielder Wilson Palacios following in a £6 million deal (The Sun) and Scott Parker arriving at White Hart Lane from West Ham.
Liverpool have a few irons in the fire but look set to miss out on Birmingham's Scott Dann, with QPR now favourites to sign the defender (Daily Mail). Heading out of Anfield are Christian Poulsen, who is reportedly going to Espanyol, and striker David N'Gog, who is set to join Bolton in £4 million deal (Daily Mirror).
